Soyambhunath

Soyambhunath temple is one of the  most glorious Buddhist stupas. It is believed to be some 2000 years old with big white dome and four walls above the dome. The eyes painted on the wall are known as the “eyes of Buddha”. There is no nose between the eyes but a representation of the number one in Nepali alphabet, signifying the single way of enlightment is through the Buddha path. The third eye signifies to look on the wisdom within, no ears because Buddha is not interested in prayers; praise of him. Soyambhunath is also known as the monkey temple because of the free roaming monkeys around the temple area.

As of 1979 A.D Soyambhunath is a UNESCO world heritage site.
